چکیده

Perceptual understanding systems often involve building hierarchical groupings. The elements of such a hierarchy range from primitive elements at the lowest levels (such as pixels, in the case of image-understanding systems) to representations of complete real-world objects at higher levels. At each level, data are grouped together because they are identified as component parts of a single feature at the next level; the domain-specific work lies in correctly identifying these groups through all the levels. The construction of such a hierarchy generally proceeds from raw data input up to top-level explanations, however, it usually cannot operate in a strictly bottom-up fashion. Often a number of hypotheses must be made as to the correct grouping, one of which is eventually selected according to a higher-level constraint; that is, there is also a top-down aspect to the process. The number of primitive elements is typically quite large, and if several levels of hypothesizing are necessary, the number of hypotheses can increase exponentially; efficient means of representing and managing hypotheses are therefore desirable. This paper describes such a method, called context-dependent links. Context-dependent links allow the system to conserve memory (and for many operations, time) by exploiting the redundancies between different grouping hypotheses. At the same time, they make explicit certain natural relationships among the hypotheses themselves.

Weapons of Mass Destruction in Context; Investigating the Links between Militarization and Godlessness of Modern Politics

Modern brutality, which found its culmination in using weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against humanity, is the dark side of the principal teachings of the Enlightenment. The great thinkers of the Enlightenment, blaming religion as the main source of violence, removed God from the center of Western political and social thought to replace it with human. Although they were not conscious of the ...

Multi-Resolution, Semantic Objects, and Context for Road Extraction

This paper presents a multi-resolution approach for automatic extraction of roads from digital aerial imagery. Roads are modeled as a network of intersections and links between the intersections. For different context regions, i.e., rural, forest, and urban areas, the model describes relations between background objects, e.g., buildings or trees, and road objects, e.g., road-parts, road-segment...

Prone positioning reduces severe pushing behavior: three case studies

[Purpose] Pushing behavior is classically described as a disorder of body orientation in the coronal plane. Most interventions for pushing behavior have focused on correcting the deviation in vertical perception. However, pushing behavior seems to involve erroneous movements associated with excessive motor output by the non-paretic limbs and trunk. The present study aimed to inhibit muscular hy...

Pushing context-awareness down to the core: more flexibility for the PerLa language

Information technology is increasingly pervading our environment, making real Mark Weiser’s vision of a “disappearing technology”. The work described in this paper focuses on using context to enable pervasive system personalization, allowing context-aware sensor-data tailoring. Since sensor networks, besides data collection, are also able to produce active behaviours, the tailoring capabilities...

Biomechanically determined hand force limits protecting the low back during occupational pushing and pulling tasks.

Though biomechanically determined guidelines exist for lifting, existing recommendations for pushing and pulling were developed using a psychophysical approach. The current study aimed to establish objective hand force limits based on the results of a biomechanical assessment of the forces on the lumbar spine during occupational pushing and pulling activities. Sixty-two subjects performed pushi...
